Ensuring we have the right voice for your brand

News & announcements
Over the years, we’ve built up a comprehensive roster of professional voiceover artists around the globe. But we’re not done yet...

We know there’s always more we can do to better reflect the unique qualities that each client’s business possesses. With this in mind, we’re constantly looking for new voices to join the roster.

Over the last year, our Voice team have been working solidly to bring new artists onboard, diversifying the range of voices available in terms of accent, age, background, and so on – and adding new language options, including Swedish, Dutch and Polish.

Sometimes, a new addition to the roster is the result of a client request. This is how we’ve come to add another option to the roster for the first time: a gender-ambiguous voice.

The story begins several months back, as we brought onboard new client Repair Revolution.

An auto repair shop based in Seattle, WA, Repair Revolution is – perhaps somewhat unusually – owned and operated by members of the LGBTQ+ community. Not only that, but their customers are predominantly also LGBTQ+ and allies.

With many of the team themselves being trans or non-binary, they wanted their new audio branding to reflect this – and provide a counterpoint to the traditionally masculine (and potentially intimidating) norms of the auto repair industry.

Our Voice team were tasked with identifying a voice that was ‘like Lavern Cox – confident, friendly, gender ambiguous but feminine of centre, and clearly queer’.

We like a challenge, so we set off in search of a suitable artist. We were thrilled to find the perfect voice in Zia Amador, who identifies as a transgender man; Zia was raised in a bilingual household of professional voiceover artists in Massachusetts, and speaks with a neutral accent in both American English and American Spanish – an unexpected bonus! Pleasingly, our client shared our enthusiasm for Zia’s voice, which you can hear a snippet of below.

Part of my remit is ensuring that our voice roster is as diverse as our clients are. Clearly a gender-ambiguous voice might not be suitable for many businesses, but it evidently suits some – so it’s important we offer it. Repair Revolution’s story just goes to show that no matter what you need from your voice artist, we can find it.

To ensure this option is available to clients around the globe, we are also keen to hear from professional voiceover artists across the UK, Ireland, Canada and Australia who identify as trans, non-binary and gender-non-conforming.

To express your interest in joining our voice roster, submit your voice reel to voice@phmg.com.
