client overview
Established in 1934, Peterborough United is a professional football club who currently play in the second tier of the English pyramid.
The brief, in brief
Help the club use its telephone system as a stand-in for furloughed staff.
The background
Peterborough United represents the Cambridgeshire city of Peterborough in English professional football. Representing over 200,000 people, including significant immigrant populations, the club is a unifying force that regularly attracts between 7,000 and 11,000 fans through the turnstiles each week.
The club’s London Road ground, the Weston Homes Stadium, is also home to the club’s offices and merchandise shop.
The problem
As the covid pandemic took hold, the English Football League season was suspended indefinitely for the first time since 1939, until it was safe to resume play.
All of the club’s scheduled matches were postponed, and in accordance with government guidelines, the club also closed both the store and the office to help combat the spread of the virus. Deemed a non-essential business, many of the team’s backroom staff were furloughed and there were few people available to answer calls from concerned ticketholders.
How we helped
We already had an established relationship with Peterborough United before the pandemic, and they turned to us for help. Working remotely ourselves, we quickly scripted, recorded, edited and deployed high-quality changes to their welcome and out-of-hours messages.
These were updated to inform callers about the closure of the offices and shop, while also relaying details of where to find more information – leaving the club’s few remaining staff to focus their attention on proactive communications through the club’s website, social media channels and email database.
