PHMG Presents: Jacquire King
Last week, Grammy Award-winning producer Jacquire King travelled from Nashville to join us at our Manchester offices. – spending time with staff from several different departments, and treating our creative teams to a series of exclusive masterclasses and workshops.
With 37 Grammy nominations and three wins – including one for Kings of Leon’s ‘Only by the Night’ – under his belt, Jacquire’s enjoyed a sparkling career as a record producer.
Over more than three decades, he’s worked with artists like Tom Waits, James Bay and Shania Twain – so it was only right that we invited him to share his wisdom with our Production department.
In his masterclasses, Jacquire talked to our producers about his journey in the music industry and the tips and tricks he picked up along the way – and while in the studio, staff got the opportunity to get some practical experience with the long-time PHMG creative partner, and discuss both their personal and work-related ambitions. Brainstorming ways to not only improve their own productions, but further reinforce the quality of our exclusive music tracks. The sessions proved invaluable for our resident musical maestros.
Later, we joined Jacquire in our auditorium, as staff from across the company fielded their own questions to him in two brilliant ‘PHMG Presents’ Q&A sessions.
With a more varied audience came a more varied conversation, and Jacquire was quizzed on everything from his favourite musical era and the best musicians he’s worked with, to the advantages of risk and the benefits of carving out your own unique space within your chosen industry.
Jacquire doubled down on this point, saying…
Regardless of what it is you do, what separates anyone in their field is how creatively they think and how willing they are to do something a little different… to take a risk. That’s what’s powerful, that’s what will attract people to you, and that’s what will help you carve out your own space.
These sessions helped inspire a wider range of PHMG staff, allowing everyone to benefit from his expertise – both creatively and professionally. We captured footage from the second of these Q&As, which you can watch for yourself below.
One of the most interesting points that came from our time with Jacquire was the discovery of his own musical inspiration – Tom Dowd. During a Q&A, he praised Dowd for his incredible contributions to the evolution of music, and recommended the award-winning documentary based on Dowd’s life, ‘Tom Dowd and the Language of Music’.
Watching an acclaimed music producer of today’s industry discuss his influences to a room of people who could well be the next generation of success was truly inspiring, and we had a fantastic time talking the language of music with Jacquire King during his stay. We look forward to welcoming him back in the future.
