This year, we're supporting just four of the causes closest to our hearts to make the biggest difference – one of which is Action for Children. We're taking a closer look at all they do, so read on to learn more about this valuable work and how we'll be helping this continue in 2018.
Two of our selected charities were chosen in a vote from our staff, and Action for Children was the clear winner amongst our UK team. Their mission is an undoubtedly important one – to make sure every child and young person has the love, support and opportunity they need to reach their full potential. Starting out in 1868, this charity has been helping vulnerable children across the UK for150 years simply by doing what's right, what's needed and what works. A remarkable 96% of their funding goes straight to the children they support, making it an incredibly worthy cause. This includes tackling child abuse and neglect, improving the lives of children with disabilities, influencing policy and change and providing much-needed support to the vulnerable. Just last year, they helped 370,000 babies, children and families, and we're happy to be part of their mission of creating an even bigger impact for current and future generations.
When you take a look at the figures, you realise the capacity we have to make a difference. Just £5 covers emergency overnight support for a young person living on the street. £15 provides a sizeable contribution to the running of weekly parent and toddler groups. £58 is enough to open one of their centres for the day, and £125 pays for two sessions of trauma counselling. It all puts our goal of raising £25,000 into perspective – the potential for change is huge.
What's unique about Action for Children is the depth of their impact, and their ability to get to the roots of real, lasting change. By doing valuable research and influencing government policy, they speak out for the vulnerable, giving them a voice and making it heard. From fighting for children's rights to shifting the amount of support from the system, it's all incredibly valuable work - preventing young people from being in such disadvantaged positions in the first place.
At PHMG, we strongly believe in the value of opportunity for the younger generations both here in the UK and across the pond, so we've paired our support for Action for Children with the US-based charity SOS Children's Villages. Between our teams, we've got lots of exciting fundraising events planned for the year.
